 MONSTERS A GORGO!

Some giant monster artwork here, a couple of drawings from my drawing pad, a straight-up monster drawing, and then a jokey play on the name.

This flick is a fun Godzilla wannabe, a cheeky British knock-off version. Big, scaly, slightly confused, and absolutely loving the chaos it’s causing in the climactic closing scenes  - just good ole classic rubber-suit-crushing-model-building vibes and all with a proper England setting. What's not to like about it?

Honestly, if this beast showed up in my backyard, I’d probably just grab a cuppa tea, sit back and watch the mayhem, saying “Cor blimey, guv-nah…” each time the monster obliviates one of those iconic black London cabs by stepping on it.

Here's the beastie, it comes at you in black n' white
Below is a coloured up version.

“I tried not to be cheesy, but it somehow squeezed its way into this caption:
The Gorgeous Gorgonzola-Eating Gorgon Gorgo.”

 DIRECTOR’S CUT

Haha, I don't know why, but I just have to have a little chuckle at this each time I come across it!

I found this little jokey drawing by me tucked away in my old art folder,  it’s horror film related and actually appeared in a script book for the 1978 movie, so yep… the director saw and the director approves!

I’m not going to tell you the movie, though, see if you can guess.

Here are a couple of cryptic clues:

It’s bizarrely edible in wordplay (well, some of it is),

You can do this in someone's eye, and you can also "roast" like this… and the last word goes with “gravy.”

Okay, bonus clue, also not in the title itself, but somewhere in the middle of the movie, a weiner pops up.

It's guess the movie time!

 MARS ACK ACK ATTACKS

AMERICAN BLOODY MARY

American Mary is a freaky, dive into the weird and not too wonderful world of body modification and human obsession. “Unique” and “freak” are the only words that really fit — and for those poor souls who take body modding to the extreme, they somehow end up being both at the same time once the body pimping is done. There’s a sort of sordid realism to some of the background characters, like they're not really actors but real participants. I knew next to nothing going in, stumbling upon this movie by chance. The title gives nothing away, in the best way. The first time we meet her Betty Boop friend Beatress, it was unsettling, sure, but also weirdly fascinating and utterly bewildering.

There’s an abundance of disturbing, unsettling scenes, strange characters, and bizarre ideas at play here. Basically, extreme underground cosmetic surgery, there's one woman who wants to turn herself into a human Barbie doll.  And as for that creepy, leeching doctor? Let’s just say karma in American Mary doesn’t do subtle; it serves up exactly what he deserved, with a side of freakshow justice.

All in all, it's not a great movie, but to me, this movie hit the spot when I had nothing to watch and craved a film about body dysmorphic correction surgery: an enjoyable, if disturbing, find.

Sure, it has flaws, it's a bit of a mess sometimes, I guess, like some of the people, but honestly… I can live with that, no need for re-edits. There was already enough cutting and splicing going on.

Once a douchebag - now a punch bag - " ready for that upper cut, mister?"

 JOIN US! FACE YOUR DEMONS!

Chainsaws revving, blood flying, and a cabin doing its best impression of a possessed blender,  with Ash and demons as the main ingredients, yes, it’s the utterly deranged Evil Dead finale! Poor Ash is down to one hand, one nerve, and zero hope of ever getting his deposit back. The Necronomicon’s throwing tantrums, the walls are bleeding, and the furniture’s laughing; it’s basically an Airbnb from hell.

This climactic showdown had it all: plasticine monsters, stop-motion chaos, and mushy peas that never looked so terrifying.

What a movie! It was a true standout in my horror-watching life. I still remember this moment the way that possessed demon lunged forward, like it was gliding on rails,  pure, unfiltered nightmare fuel that burned itself into my brain forever.

KEMPER CHAINSAW MASSACRE

here be a  quickie drawing of the moment that actually terrified me watching the 2003 remake of Texas chainsaw massacre, its when we catch a glimpse of Leatherface wearing Kemper's face, such a disturbing image.

Friday the13th again

Just realised what today is, so I drew a quickie sketch in recognition.

Now just as I'm posting this up I realised that this is the third incarnation Jason so it's from FRIDAY THE 13th part III, this takes place after the events of the first two movies which means this movie actually occurs on the following 2 days ...so its really Saturday the 14th and Sunday the 15th! Doh! I could have saved rushing it and taken my time drawing this.

What do victim shout when pursued? ---STOP Jason me!!

FATHERS DAY

Its fathers day today so I thought why not rush of a quick back from the grave image of rotten ole Dead Nate from the amazing Creepshow movie.

See, it's not only wedding cakes that end up with tiers.

ALIENS on BOARD!

Yeah I've owned this artwork for a while and as I rarely look at these I decided to sell them off , these are actual Alien Ressurection storyboards used in the production of the movie and I am sorry but I  have no idea who the artist here is, if anyone is able to shed any light on the name and would be all too pleased to give him or her credit here.
I recently sold these along with a nice kit model of the space jockey from Alien movie by Halcyon, of which I took some nice photographs of before packaging up and shipping off.

BAD MOON RISING

"BLUE MOON You saw me standing alone Without a dream in my heart Without a love of my own.."

Last night January 31st 2018 was the second full month in that calendar month and according to moon scientists technically that makes it a super blue blood moon.

In commemoration, I snapped a photo of the glorious lunar phenomenon the blue moon from my bedroom window (see picture above)

Originally by Sam Cooke, Blue Moon by Bobby Vinton was also the slow and soothing song you hear during the opening credits of American Werewolf in London and so why not make this the excuse to post up another American werewolf scribble.

"Beware the moon"

After arriving at the convention venue, despite having paid the early doors premium I ended up queuing for nearly an hour, mainly because I was so enthusiastic I turn up way too early,  inside the hall I eventually made my way round to the very very busy signing area, in hindsight I should have headed here promptly as it was already extremely popular.
Firstly there was large central holding pen to hold the masses which meant waiting again for close to an hour before you could join the lengthy queues at the appropriate desk of your chosen celebrity, where you were then faced with yet more queuing, it was slow moving and I later discovered the reason why.
Eventually, I got to meet David Naughton - it has to be said he is an incredibly nice person and that made the wait totally worth it, he didn't rush and seemed genuinely interested and engaged in the conversation, as great as this was it was also the reason behind the treacle speed queue. After a lot of very nice banter with David, I thanked him and of I went to purchase some Game of Throne coasters, here I took out my cash to pay I had the sudden realization that being so engrossed in chatting I hadn't paid David for his autograph!  Feeling guilty I turned back to go hand over the money but found the area was still thronged with so many many people waiting and waiting there was just no way I was could go through all that again!

I feel bad about being a non-payer and fearfully envisage that on the next night of a full one while I'm sat watching the Muppet Show he's gonna would turn up on my doorstep for payment in full....

RE-ANIMATOR

Cartoony funny time, one of my favourite of the wall loony horror film, Stuart Gordon's Re-Animator drawn here with some added cat poop.

It looks like a 2b but that's a HB Lovecraft pencil.

WHO YOU GONNA CALL?

More moleskin sketchbook pages, this time of the creepy creepy ghost that Patrick encounters on the sub way, wonderfully played by Vincent Schiavelli , there's a scene in the movie where he breaks open a cigarette machine desperate to have another smoke, in real life he passed away at 57 of lung cancer.

Okay not really much else to see or for me to add so here's a random film based fact: in Ghost the sound of actual babies crying was played in reverse to make that weird sound of the dark shadows that appear to drag the dead evil doers soul away.

If you upset a ghost on an outward part of a return train journey you know it'll come back and haunt you.

Human Centipede tricycle

A quick drawing showing the absolute ideal escape idea for this trio,  I figured a regular vehicle would be most difficult as their predicament impedes their ability to sit or drive, as for  a train well that just looks like one party is mocking the other.

two thirds of the movie is totally tongue in cheek

Thank G its Friday Ch Ch Ch Ah Ah Ah

For todays sketch I offer up this quickly drawn Friday 13 homage.
Funnily enough if you watch any of the Friday the thirteen movies in reverse Jason is actually reviving dead people with his magic machetes.
Jason on a hot date... (date is Friday 13th)

KONG VS CLOVERFIELD

A big hearty hi to everyone who's visiting via Twitter.
I decided this year to partake in the Drawlloween challenge (where you challenge oneself to ink a drawing a day) I was pleased to find I had this image below retweeted and it lead numerous people to this blogger site and so I decided why not also post it here. For Inktober type challenges you simply have to draw in ink using the prompts , on this day it was the title"reel monsters" to work from, and I suppose the inspiration came about having just watched the excellent boxing movie Southpaw s
leading me to create this fictional monster bout.

Today is actually Friday the 13 and that neatly also forms part of the challenge, so this morning I got up and started speedily inking up a Jason image and will hopeful have that done later today post and be posted that here too.

PURSE OF THE WEREWOLF

What do you find in a werewolf's purse?
Change of course!

FRANKENSTEIN'S CASTLE WALL

I image Frankenstein castle would have some remarkable framed family portraits on its walls.
How amazingly amazing a gallery would be filled with all the different faces of all the variety of creature that ever stomped about its grounds.  Here's two,  almost polar different in their Frankensteiness.

CURSED THE WEREWOLF

We've just had the super supermoon and I spent ages outside trying to get a some splendid looking footage of the glowy orb. On the actual night of the event the sky was extremely cloudy and the night air all misty so all in all a bit of a failure but it inspired me I had a spate of drawing various werewolves.

This here is one such fellow Olly Reed and his hairy curse.

DRAWN OF THE DEAD

Digitally remastered-  it's now reDrawn of the Dead.

Prime example of a well laid plan going all wrong.
It's another sketch book page one that I was fortunate to get signed by the actual actor, my drawing of the awesome  Dawn of the Dead,  I got to put these pages in front of none other that Ken Foree who plays the SWAT officer Peter Washington in the movie  ( I recently learnt he also played Kenan's dad in the Kenan and Kel show - I used to watch that show and never even realised!)

The idea was to have Ken neatly and centrally write the best ever zombie related line from any zombie movie ever  "When there's no more room in hell..."  and then pop his moniker in the box provided in the lower right hand space.  Maybe it was those shades he was wearing that couldn't make out where his writing was headed, but his handiwork came out all bunched up in top half of the first box and in the signature box he scrawled his signature over some pencil titles that I was going to ink over later.
Apparently during the course of Dawn of the Dead's 239 end tally of fatalities Peter kills 66 zombies, thankfully its seems that his aim at zombie craniums is better than his pen placement, everything by his hand was placed wrongly. I was forced to run it through photoshop filters to eradicate the mistakes - so here I present both a before picture (shown below) and an final image after the digital alteration worked their magic. While I was at it I thought why not add some glorious Technicolor, so I did.
